Fractures of the upper thoracic spine: approaches and surgical management.

چکیده
Management of upper thoracic spinal fractures continues to be a challenging task for spinal surgeons. Appropriate treatment depends on a variety of factors, including the nature of the fracture, the need for neural decompression, and the need for spinal stabilization. A number of surgical approaches have been developed to address these lesions. Each approach carries its own inherent advantages and disadvantages and an understanding of each is required to optimize the treatment of any individual patient. As our surgical experience and expertise continues to grow in the field of minimally invasive surgery, these techniques and novel approaches will provide alternatives for our patients that will maintain the current quality of care but minimize surgical trauma and improve recovery times.

The use of eponymous terms in orthopedic trauma surgery is common. In an assessment pre-training versus posttrainingat an AO Advanced Elbow Trauma Course, we aimed to report on (1) the accuracy and (2) reliability of 10common eponymous terms used for surgical approaches and fractures in elbow surgery. Before training, eponymswere described correctly in 38% of questions versus 47% after training...

Introduction: Surgical approaches for the management of pulmonary aspergilloma have been accompanied with high levels of morbidity and mortality. However, these therapeutic options are still favored over other approaches for the treatment of Pulmonary Aspergilloma. In this study, we aimed to describe the characteristics of 30 patients with aspergilloma who referred to Ghaem hospital between 20...
متن کاملThe low anterior cervical approach to the upper thoracic vertebrae: a decision by preoperative MR imaging.
PURPOSE Surgical approaches to the upper thoracic spine are fraught with many problems as they involve thoracotomy or sternotomy. We analyzed 102 midsagittal MRI scans to evaluate the level of the sternal notch in relation to the upper thoracic spine, so that if the tangential line through the upper part of the sternal notch passed below the level of the involved vertebra, we could surgically a...
متن کاملSurgical treatment of thoracic spine fractures. Outcomes on 50 patients at 23 months follow-up.
PURPOSE The morphological and biomechanical features of the thoracic spine, together with its close proximity to the spinal cord, set it apart from other spinal segments. Management of thoracic spine injuries consists of achieving a reduction and an immediate and long-lasting stabilization of the spine while constantly protecting the central and peripheral nervous system. The aim of this study ...
متن کاملSurgical technique. Technical notes on reduction of thoracic spine fracture dislocation.
spine is a rare spinal injury often resulting from high-energy trauma. Associated soft-tissue thoracic injuries are common and are compounded by the often-associated paraplegia. Exceptionally, there are some cases of thoracic spine dislocations without neurological injuries. A major challenge in the surgical management of such spinal fractures is achieving reduction and then maintaining it afte...
